Another 100 looks a long way off, says Joe Root

There’s an element of well-meaning, polite, old-school English gentleman — straight out of a Downton Abbey setting — in Joe Root. Yet, under the soft exterior, there’s a man of steel who has survived the rigours of Test cricket. And eight years and two months since his debut in Nagpur in conditions seriously alien to him, the 30-year-old will play his 100th Test at Chepauk on Friday.
